Artists Briefs

 Featured Artists:

The Borderers – Multi-Award winning Scottish / Irish / Australian band The Borderers formed in 1994 and have released 7 albums, 4 EP's, 2 kids albums and been included on 14 compilation albums all around the world. Alex, the female lead singer was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came to Australia in 1987. Her influences are Joni Mitchell & Annie Lennox. Jim Paterson was born in Glasgow, Scotland and arrived in Australia on Xmas Eve 1993. His influences are AC/DC and Thin Lizzy.

Wintergreem - traditional Irish & Scottish dance music as well as original compositions, songs & ballads. Featuring Uillean Pipes,wooden flutes, irish basouki, mandolin, guitar & bodhran.

Creole Cowboyz – Music inspired by the great Creole French traditions. Creole French lyrics …. accordions, fiddles, guitars and rubboards.

The Cowboyz will also take you on a LONG Trail Ride out of State to the musical roots of Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and back to the Swamp Pop of South East Louisiana. The Cowboyz are about making you feel good …tappin’ your toes, singing along....and dancin’.

And central to the Festival:

The Celtic Music Club of South Australia – The club maintains a strong connection with the Celtic Traditions. To be seen on the stage, in the sessions and as the host to the bush dance on the Saturday night.

The Performers

Adelaide Academy of Irish Dancing or “Celtic Reflections” as they are more commonly known in Kapunda have delighted numerous audiences in many places with their extremely energetic, but always accurate, dance routines.  They perform traditional and contemporary Irish Dancing in the true “Riverdance” style.

Blue Companions -Working in conjunction with the Medieval Archers the Blue Companions will perform Tribal dancing & show a display of medieval armour & weapons at hand. The companions will also demonstrate some of the crafts associated with the period.

Border Celts, The/ An Ghillie Mor -

Don Bruce - Traditional & contemporary Scottish Song with a mix of blues and self penned songs. Has performed at S.A & W.A folk festivals. Classy preformer.

Garrick-Stewart School of Highland Dancing – Favourite performers each year, Leonie Burgess’s students will perform traditional Scottish Dance.

Maureen Morris Country DancersTeaming up with Tamarisque for a lively dance set, Maureen’s dancers have been enthusiastic supporters of Kapunda and always a crowd favourite.

Matsumoto Montz with Tim Bennett  - Original songs in Japanese with 5 string banjo and guitar, with many different influences such as Bluegrass, Irish, Asian etc as well as Appalachian fiddle tunes, banjo breakdowns, jigs & reels.

Medieval Archers - In period costume the group will demonstrate & discuss longbow archery and display historical items connected with Medieval archery.

One Voice - a small dedicated Christian music/ vocal group from Nuriootpa playing a wide range of material mostly from the ‘Belfast Revival’. Presenting a collection of modern worship songs based on the rich history of Irish Folk music & celtic spirituality.

Seeing Orbo - folk fusion, world music, rock, blues, folk & pop. From harmonic singing to sweet harmonies, from the familiar to the exotic.

Southern Districts Pipes & Drums - No strangers to Kapunda, this fine pipe band is in constant demand at events all over South Australia.  You will see and hear them and your souls will be stirred by this historic musical tradition.

Tamarisque have been that ever-popular duo of Janet & Hugh Gordon with two of their four children Jane & Alexander both accomplished musicians in there own right. Expect lively jigs & reels on fiddle plus haunting Celtic songs and tunes on violin & mandolin.  Look for their combined presentation with the Maureen Morris Scottish Dancers.
